Mario Thwomp Papercraft

Thwomp Papercraft

Here’s a thwomp papercraft I made, the download link is just below. The actual model is in color but my printer ink cartridge was empty so I had to print mine in grayscale. I took the thwomps in Super Mario Galaxy as the reference and I think it turned out pretty well. When completed it actually looks and even feels pretty solid if you hold it in you hand.

I would love to see how it turns out in color and with different hands, so please send me some pictures of your thwomps at: prime[at]moreprime.com

Download : Thwomp model (pdf) (right click and selet “Save Link As”)
Notes:

  • Make a seam with a sharp object on the fold lines, it will help a lot.
  • Cut the center of the front piece to have room for your fingers.
  • The spikes are a pain to make but the more you do the easier it gets.
  • Sticking the backside and the faces should be the last step.
  • When I was a kid, I always thought they looked like cookies in Super Mario Bros. 3.

-Please do send me a picture of your thwomp!

    @AspLeaf
-I think if you were to find a way to print the model on a bigger scale, it would make a good pattern, then all you need is some sewing skills and material.

I love it! I think a version with his calm face on one side and this angry face on the other would be just perfect.

I want a thwomp pillow too! They just don’t sell them anywhere.

    That’s a great papercraft you’ve made there.
As soon as I get some more ink for my printer I’ll print it out in color and assemble it.
I’ll write you a mail when I finish it and get it uploaded to my gallery ^_^

I really like the art design for this papercraft, and while it’s buildable I wouldn’t say it’s optimized. This is just constructive criticism, but if it were me, I would make it so that there are as few separate parts as possible. The strips on the third page seem kind of crazy. One long strip would probably be a bit easier, especially on newbies.

I really do like how it looks though. G’job. =)

I understand what you mean StickyPurpleCat. This is the first papercraft model I design so I knew it wasn’t probably going to be optimized like you said.

You have a good idea, if I get time I might update the model. But I’d have to try it out first to make sure it works better.

Are the faces supposed to be a different color than the rest of the parts? My faces printed out more bluish, while the rest of it is more gray.

  12. 12 Prime

yes, I colored the thwomp like the ones in Super Mario Bros 3. If you want a gray one you can just print it in gray scale and color the eyes red manually.

I was just curious, but is there any way you could provide a .pdo file for pepakura? The pillow idea sounds awesome, and this would be an easy way to scale the size up. I’m not sure how you went about making the .pdf, so I just wanted to ask. Thanks.
